Try to find some kind of volunteer work even if it is only a few hours a week this helps to fill that gap while you are out of work but also keeps you in the social and technical mix. Another way to help with your resume gap is to go back and take a class or two and either learn something new you did not know in business or become more experienced in a computer skill you already have such as Excel.
Without question raising your children is a job in its own you can put the organization skills that you used during that period of time on your resume. Or some stay at home moms I know have run a small business from their homes which did not consume all their time. The same would apply to caregivers of a family member which can also be all consuming.
The reason I bring this up is that sometimes resumes will be passed over if they have a gap of over a year and if they are not the recruiter/hiring manager will ask you why you were out of work. What I suggested above is only that …. a suggestion but it will help if you are unemployed and not participating in any activities and it will keep you current with the the lastest and greatest in business and technology.
Have a great day!
