However, that doesn’t mean you can go to work looking like you just got out of bed. Caring about how you look personally is almost as important as your work. The impression of someone who is neat and properly dressed for the job show that you care about yourself and how you look to those around you. It even gives the impression of self-confidence and pride in yourself which equates to pride in your work.
When I was first starting out in Human Resources my manager told me that if I wanted to be promoted into the higher levels of management I needed to start wearing suits. Fair? Maybe not but that was part of the package along with your performance at work. I did as was suggested and eventually was promoted so for me it was worth it.
I am not saying you have to have a super wardrobe but what I am saying is that clean, neat and you hair in place does make an impression.
