It is only natural for you to “friend” some of the people that you are close to at your place of employment. Or even if you don’t you may belong to different “groups” from your high school or college that has hundreds of people on it including those at work.
So your day did not go well and you want to share and decide to vent about work on your social media/networking page. Not a good idea because you really don’t know if your boss or someone higher up in the company will see it. The same goes for inappropriate language or pictures. If these are the type of things you post then make sure you privacy lock is on and even that isn’t a guarantee.
Many times recruiters or hiring managers will plug your name into the internet before you are out the door from your interview or even before you are asked to be interviewed. Why lose an opportunity just because one day you felt the need to bash your former employer where it can be viewed by a potential employer.
Certainly all the social media/networking pages are great tools and give you the opportunity to connect or reconnect with people. I don’t want to make anyone paranoid … all I am saying is use some discretion for your own protection.
What do you think? Would love to hear from you!
